What is re-registration?
Re-registration is the completion of a new record of birth which supersedes an original registration.
Why do I need to re-register my child's birth?
There are two circumstances in which a child may be re-registered:
- If the child’s natural parents have married or formed a civil partnership with each other since the child was born
- Adding the father’s details if they weren’t recorded at the time of registration. If the child's parents are unmarried and not in a civil partnership with each other and would like to add the natural father’s details to the birth record
Further information on re-registering a child can be found on the gov.uk website
