This funding supports schools to remove barriers that prevent pupils from walking, cycling, or scooting to school. By encouraging active travel, the grant aims to support healthier lifestyles and more sustainable journeys for children and their families.
Schools can apply for up to £5,000, with match funding of up to 80% available through the Workplace Travel Grant. Applications demonstrating a higher level of match funding may be prioritised.
The grant can be used to fund facilities and equipment that help increase active travel to school, including:
- Cycle parking
- Hi‑visibility equipment for walking or wheeling buses
- Bike cycles and balance bikes and helmets for Bikeability or learn‑to‑ride sessions
- Parking Buddies (subject to highways approval)
We welcome innovative ideas and are happy to consider applications for other facilities or equipment that support walking, cycling, and scooting to school.
To avoid disappointment please check your projects eligibility by reading the School Travel Grant Guidance prior to making an application.
