Creating a topic page

Topic pages are a series of pages which break complex subjects into easy, digestible chunks. They can have next and previous buttons at the bottom which take the user through a sequence of pages so that they can follow a process.

To create a topic page you need to:

  1. Right click on your parent page.  This is the page you would like your new page to sit under
  2. Select "Create"
  3. Select "Topic page" and hit submit
  4. Give your page a name and title
  5. Add your content

You will need to follow the same process above for creating each of your topic pages.

Next and previous buttons

Once you have created all your topic pages you can then add the next and previous buttons.  This is also known as pagination.

Next and previous buttons only work on the same page type.  For example if you have a topic page, then a task page and then another topic page it will skip the task page and go straight to the next topic page.

To set up the buttons simply tick the pagination option on every page that you want the buttons to appear on.

If you then preview the page you can see how the next and previous buttons will look on the live website.

Jump links

Jump links are the only other option we have available on a topic page.  Jump links help to break up your content further and help users to navigate through your page.

To add a jump link you first need to create an anchor on the page.  Anchors are case sensitive and cannot have any spaces.

To create an anchor you need to:

  1. Go to the first heading on your page
  2. Place your cursor in front of the heading
  3. Click on the anchor option on the top toolbar

  4. Give your anchor a name and select ok
  5. Now save your page so that it recognises the anchor you have just created

You can now create your first jump link.  To do this:

  1. Go to the jump links section on the page and click on "add"
  2. In the anchor box, type in the name of your anchor exactly how you created it
  3. Add in your link title.  This is usually the same text as the heading you are linking to.
  4.  Click submit

You now need to follow this process to add in all your jump links.

Once you have finished adding your jump links you can then preview your page to see how they will look and work on the live website.
