On our website you will notice we do not use images on content pages.
This is to ensure we do not detract from the content. Images can only be used if they add to the information.
For example; if you were describing symptoms and one of them was a rash you could add an image of the rash.
Images can be used in banners and cards (the boxes with images) on hubs and sub hubs.
Images and documents must be accessible and appropriately sized. Find out more about image sizes on the useful information page.
Within Umbraco images and documents are referred to as 'media'. They are stored in the 'media library'.
Uploading media items
Go to the media area by clicking on the media button up at the top of your screen.
You will see the corresponding folders for areas you have permissions to edit.
Please note; there are separate folders for images and documents.
Navigate to the area where you want to upload or replace your document, or image.
There are several ways to add media.
- you can either drop your file into the area you want it to be in

- you can click create

- or you can click to upload
- Give your item a name
- Then click on the arrow, to upload your file or image
- Click OK
- Then click save and you'll see it's in the tree
Updating a media item
If you want to update a document that already exists and is linked on the website
then you don't need to upload a new document.
Instead, you need to replace it. That way all the links pointing to that file remain valid and we avoid any broken links.
To replace the document you need to go to the existing document in the file structure, using the tree.
- Find the item you want to update. The file structure works in the same way as the website
- You then need to click remove file and the file will disappear.

- You now need to upload the updated media item.
- Click on your arrow to upload and navigate to your updated file or image
- Click save
You can see the upload has been successful by clicking on the information tab. This will tell you when the item was created, who it was created by and when it was last edited.

Creating a media item from a content page
You can also upload an item from a content page.
First make sure your item is the appropriate size and accessible.
- Place your cursor where you want to add the item click on the media picker icon from the toolbar.
- Navigate to the folder your item should be in
- If you want to add a new folder click on the + and give the folder a name

- Click on upload
- Your item will upload to the folder, give it a description and click select

If you want to add a document first select the text you want to add the link to the document from.
- Select the hyperlink icon
- Scroll to 'Link media' below the content tree
- Navigate to the correct folder and upload the document in the same way

Please note; if you have been uploading documents or images the library remembers the last place you visited and returns you to the same folder.
Make sure you navigate to the correct folder in images or documents so that you can find your item again if you have to update it.
