Creating a link to another page or website

Once you have created your page and added some content you will probably need to create links.

Please make sure the words you highlight to create a link make sense when read out of context.

For example

View a list of registered venues

and not;

Click here does not tell the customer where they are going and if they are using a screen reader a page full of 'click here's' would mean they wouldn't know what link to select.

Creating a link to an external website

  1. Highlight the text you wish to create the link from
  2. Click on the Insert/edit link icon 'insert/edit link' icon in the toolbar
  3. Add link dialog box
  4. If you have an external link to another website paste it into the first box
  5. Add a link title which explains where the link is going
  6. Leave the link opening in the same window. Multiple windows opening is confusing for someone using a screen reader. Only use 'open in new window' if its useful to have both pages open, but if you do this ensure you tell the user
  7. Click submit
  8. Save and preview your page and check the link works

  7. Save and preview your page and check the link works

If the link is important and you want it to stand out from you content, you can add a blue button to the link.

Only do this after a paragraph of text and not within a paragraph.

To add a button select it from the formatting.

  1. Click on your link
  2. Click on the formats drop down in your toolbar Formats icon
  3. Select 'Blue button'
