We recognise that fraud against the Council harms the citizens and taxpayers of Cornwall.
Fraud, bribery and corruption against the Council will not be tolerated, and all reports will be investigated.
Fraud is:
• giving false information or documents
• not giving us all information that may affect an application or claim
• not reporting changes in circumstances when there is legal requirement to do so
The Council and public funds can be affected by many different types of fraud for example, Tenancy Fraud and Abuse, Council Tax Fraud or Evasion, Business Rate Fraud or Evasion, Bribery or Corruption, Blue Badge Misuse, Concessionary Fares Fraud and Fraud relating to Social Care/Direct Payments.
The Council don't investigate fraud relating to benefits administered by The Department for Work and Pensions, such as Housing Benefit, Disability Benefits, Universal Credit, Income Support, Pension Credit etc. You should report this on the GOV UK website or by calling the National Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 440.
Please note: Council Tax Support is administered by the Council and any fraud relating to this should be reported using the Council’s online form.

Any suspicion of wrongdoing, error, fraud, bribery or corruption will be treated seriously and will be reviewed with due regard to the law. Suspected fraud, bribery or corruption will be investigated in an independent, open-minded, fair, transparent and professional manner with the aim of protecting the interests of both the Council and as appropriate any suspected individual(s).
