Temporary part-time timetable notification for successfully submitted

Thank you for notifying Cornwall Council of a temporary part-time timetable for one of your pupils.

When the arrangement comes to an end, please complete the end notification form: LINK

By submitting the form you have confirmed that:

  • The school has read and applied Cornwall Council’s guidance on TPTTs (LINK to guidance).
  • A multi-agency meeting has taken place to discuss and agree the TPTT.
  • For children with an EHC plan, the Statutory SEN Service has been consulted.
  • A risk assessment has been completed (LINK to RA docs).
  • Parental consent has been obtained and documented. The school understands that where a child is eligible for Free School Meals alternative arrangements will need to be made so that the child can still receive their Free School Meals entitlement on days when they do not attend or only attend part of the school day. The school is responsible for making these arrangements.

About temporary part-time timetables

Schools have a statutory duty to provide a full-time education for all pupils on their roll. The use of a temporary part-time timetable (TPTT) should be an exceptional measure in any school.

It is illegal for a school to impose a TPTT, however it is accepted that a time-limited part-time timetable may be appropriate in a small number of cases where the setting can demonstrate that Cornwall Council's guidance has been followed and parental consent has been obtained.

A TPTT itself should not be seen as an intervention – it is a means of allowing other interventions to be effective.

It is expected that a multi-agency meeting will have taken place before a TPTT is agreed with parents and put in place.

About the notification form

The purpose of the form is to notify the Local Authority of a TPTT.  The form is not a request for approval of a TPTT.  Schools are responsible for the implementation and management of TPTTs.  You may be contacted by Cornwall Council for further details on the arrangement as part of its monitoring role.

Further notifications

There are two notification forms relating to TPTTs.  Schools are asked to complete the initial notification form for a TPTT (this form) and then the end notification form (LINK).  Cornwall Council no longer requires updates at review points, however schools should be able to provide details of review meetings on request.
