If you are evacuated from your home in an emergency, you will be asked if you can stay with family or friends in the first instance. This provides you with immediate care in familiar settings. Where this is not possible Cornwall Council will find you an appropriate form of temporary accommodation.
During an evacuation of several properties you will be directed to a local Evacuation Assembly Point, or in a large scale or pre-planned evacuation a Strategic Rest Centre. This could be a church hall, leisure centre or community centre. The Emergency Management team hold a database of buildings all over Cornwall and can be opened at any time of day and transport will be arranged to get you there.
If overnight accommodation is needed this can be arranged in one of these buildings, located in strategic locations across Cornwall. These centres will be equipped to ensure that you are comfortable and are provided with a place to sleep temporarily, food, refreshments and a quiet place for prayers, etc. Support services will also be brought in.
It is intended that, whenever possible, more suitable overnight accommodation will be sourced. This will depend on the number of evacuees and the type of incident.
