Cornwall is one of 11 areas in England supported by Active Travel England to pilot active travel social prescribing (ATSP). Public Health and Healthy Cornwall are working with Transport and Active Cornwall to deliver the ATSP Pilot. The Pilot will run until summer 2025 and is focused on:
- Bodmin
- St Austell and the China Clay Areas
- Penzance (including Newlyn, Heamoor and Gulval)
This is because these areas have entrenched health inequalities and poor health outcomes. They also have different levels of existing active travel infrastructure and social prescribing schemes.
The ATSP Pilot looks to reduce health inequality and make active lifestyles more attractive and achievable. We are hoping to change behaviours by supporting adults to make the shift to active travel.
How you can get involved
Get support
We have funded projects through the Active Travel Social Prescribing Fund to support clients embed walking and cycling into their everyday journeys. You can also be referred for one-to-one support by our Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPs) by using the professional referral form on the Healthy Cornwall website.
The Active Travel Record
This new resource has been developed to support clients. You can download the Active Travel Record and the Additional Record sheet to record your goals and progress against them.
The Interactive Maps
As part of the pilot, we are collecting views on what helps or hinders people to get from A to B by walking, cycling, wheeling or using public transport. Please use the Community Mapping Tool to make a note of an issue and to propose a solution.
