Good data underpins effective research. Below are some resources that share data on health research in the UK.

Fingertips – Public Health dashboard
A range of health profiles and data collated by the Department of Health and Social care. 


Health inequalities dashboard
Information and data on measures of health inequality. The data has been collected by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.


Adult social care outcomes framework
Shares data on how adult social care in the UK is performing against set outcomes.


Projecting Older People Population Information System
Shares statistics on adult needs and the older population. You need to set up an account to use the data.


Public health intelligence online 
A resource bringing together data and resources from across England. 


Public Health England guide to using data to address health inequalities
Public Health England overview of datasets available to support research into health inequalities. It includes links to resources. They also share guidance on how relevant they are for different types of research.


NHS England – helpful sources of data on health inequalities
Data and guidance from NHS England. It aims to help people understand the impact of health inequalities.


Office for National Statistics – health and social care data
Data and analysis shared by the Office for National Statistics on health and social care in the UK.


Data Policies and Reviews  

Goldacre review
Published in April 2022, the review recommends improvements to data analysis in healthcare.


Data saves lives
Government strategy from June 2022 for the use of data in health and care. It incorporates many recommendations from the Goldacre review. 


Five Safes framework
The Five Safes framework is a set of principles to provide safe research access to data. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) developed the framework in the 2010s with other providers. It shares best practice in data protection, and fulfils demands of open science and transparency.


PEDRI good practice safe standards
The PEDRI seven standards address key barriers to effective public engagement. The standards encourage public engagement with research in a safe way. They build on two years of collaboration with the public and professionals.

Administrative Data Research UK
ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK) is a partnership transforming the way researchers access the UK’s public sector data. They aim to enable better informed policy decisions that improve people’s lives.


Health Data Research UK (HDRUK)
Health Data Research UK covers England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It works with a range of health data. Data sources include:

  • NHS
  • universities
  • research institutes
  • charities
  • private companies
  • wearable and mobile technologies.

South West Analytics and Infrastructure in Healthcare (SWAIH)
SWAIH network hosts meetings, workshops and talks for people working with healthcare data for research in the South West. They share and promote existing healthcare data resources and training.


NHS-R Community
A community of practice for data analysis and data science using open-source software in the NHS.


The Local Government Association
Key performance data for local authorities. The website also shares advice on using data and research in local government.
