Parenting programmes are workshops and/or groups that support you with some of the challenges of being a parent. Parents tell us that they learn a great deal from each other and enjoy the support that a group provides. We offer a selection of free workshops, whatever the age or needs of your child.
Parents Plus Adolescents Programme
Join us for a free 18 hour workshop (9 weekly 2-hour sessions) for parents and carers of children aged 12 to 19 years.
This is an evidence-based workshop that covers topics such as:
- Understanding teenagers
- Pressing the pause button
- Getting to know your teenager
- Establishing rules with teenagers
- Connecting with your teenager
- Communicating rules positively
- The power of encouragement
- Using consequences
This workshop is offered both face-to-face and online.

Living with Parents
Join us for a one-day workshop for parents and carers of young people aged 12 to 17 years.
Living with Parents is an evidence-based workshop for parents and carers to attend with their young person, and includes:
- Interactive activities
- Structured activities
- Guided discussion
- Group work
- Strategies and top tips
- Discussing effective communication
- Relationship building
- Boundary setting
This workshop is only offered face-to-face.

Self Harm Awareness: Children and Young People
This free, half-day training session is suitable for parent/carers to learn more about self harm in the context of young people.
Throughout the session you'll learn the knowledge and skills to:
- Understand self harm in the context of children and young people
- Identify the risk factors that can lead a young person to self harm
- Raise confidence in responding to, and supporting, a young person who self harms

Arguing Better - a workshop for parents with a child of any age
You will learn:
- Where stress comes from and how it can effect you
- Ways to recognise stress and talk about it
- How to support each other through difficult times
- What causes arguments and how to stop them
Both parents are encouraged to attend together, but one parent can attend on their own.

Getting it Right for Children - a workshop for separating or separated parents
You will learn:
- How to stay calm and listed as well as talk
- Why it's helpful to see things from a different point of view
- What to do to stop a discussion turning into an argument
- Skills for finding solutions and making compromises
Parents should attend separate courses and book separate dates.

Positive Parenting Bitesize sessions are free workshops run by Together for Families’ team of Parenting Workers who are trained in evidence-based interventions. They are an introduction to some top tips and strategies and incorporates golden threads from our other parenting programmes.
Each session is 2 hours long and sessions are available weekly on different topics.

Barnardo’s Exceed Service DICE
DICE provides families with information, advice and support to help them provide a safe and protective environment for their child or young person.
It supports families to understand the risks young people face in modern society with 4-week online free universal support for parents/carers of pre-teens and teens who are worried about parenting in the modern world, with the risks and challenges this presents.
Parents and carers can access this programme on a regular basis throughout the year. Please ensure you contact Exceed to request a referral form and a space by emailing: exceed@barnardos.org.uk
