Education Business Partnership (EBP)

Cornwall Education Business Partnership (CEBP) works with:

  • employers
  • schools and
  • colleges

to help young people prepare for the world of work.  Developing knowledge, character and employability skills.  This is done through a range of careers related activities and work experience. While increasing social mobility and challenging stereotypes.

What we do

For over twenty-five years, Cornwall EBP has delivered motivational programmes for young people.

Through a range of activities and events we aim to:

  • increase enterprise and entrepreneurship skills.
  • support meaningful work experience.
  • provide impartial ‘real world’ careers information linked to the local labour market.
  • raise achievement, aspiration, progression and decision making in young people
  • develop Cornwall’s future workforce and economy

Our current programmes

COMPASS logoCOMPASS is a partnership of 12 providers across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, led by Cornwall Council and funded by the European Social Fund.

COMPASS will enable young People, including those with special education needs and disabilities and social, emotional and mental health:

  • develop their resilience,
  • build upon their employability skills
  • Improve their labour market knowledge
  • Help them make informed choices around access to education, employment and training based on their interests, skills and abilities.

The aim of COMPASS is to offer a flexible, person-centred approach to supporting young people who are NEET (not in education, employment or training) or at risk of NEET with a particular focus on young people for whom SEND (special educational needs or disability) or SEMH (social, emotional, mental health) issues present a barrier to progression.

Health Works for Cornwall is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and Cornwall Council. This programme aims to support 5,500 individuals across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Designed to support unemployed or economically inactive individuals with health-related employment barriers.

Kickstart scheme imageKickstart is part of the government’s Plan for Jobs.

Aiming to create new, fully funded jobs across England, Scotland and Wales. 

The Scheme enables employers to create a new 6 month job placement(s) for young people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.   The young person needs to be:

  • aged 16-24
  • currently on Universal Credit
  • and at risk of long-term unemployment.

The Education Business Partnership is one of four Gateway Organisations in Cornwall.

This means that we will:

  • gather information from you about the job placements you’d like to offer
  • use this information to submit an online application on behalf of a group of employers
  • process payments made by the Department of Work and Pensions to you.

Research shows that teaching students about careers before age 11 can:

  • improve a child's learning outcomes
  • improve a child's behaviour
  • improve a child's emotional resilience
  • ease a pupil's transition from year 6 to 7

Primary Futures

The Education Business Partnership (EBP) are delivering a series of key stage 1 and 2 events.  These are in partnership with Primary Futures.

This programme of events supported by local employers teach students about the workplace.

The programme includes:

  • Curriculum Based Projects
  • Interactive Assemblies
  • Group Activities

Primary Futures is a national campaign delivered by Education and Employers.

Skills Your Way logo

Skills Your Way is funded by the European Social Fund.

This project will be delivered by Cornwall Education Business Partnership.  It is aimed at supporting young people aged 15–24 who are not in education, employment or training. This includes those who may have barriers such as special educational needs and/or disability (SEND).

Skills Your Way offers a one-to-one provision to support the young person. Offering a wide range of activities designed to support with:

  • Gaining employability skills
  • Information, advice, guidance and skills assessment
  • Employer engagement
  • Work experience and taster days
  • Various activities designed to build confidence, identify interests and develop team skills

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Aged between 15–24
  • Unemployed or economically inactive
  • Has the right to work and live in the UK

Current Events and Projects

We engage with local and national businesses to work schools.

To provide young people with meaningful employer encounters and experiences of the workplace.

Research from Education and Employers shows that a young person who has four or more employer encounters is:

  • 86% less likely to be Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)
  • Earn up to 22% more during their career

Cornwall Education Business Partnerships Key Stage 3,4 and 5 delivery includes:

  • STEM careers-related learning

  • ‘Escape Room’ skills challenge
  • Employer safaris
  • Management of work experience 
  • Supporting events for work experience. Including: health, safety and welfare preparation for work experience  
  • Employability skills development programmes
  • Careers Fairs
  • Activities linking careers to the curriculum
  • Passport to Work Experience

Work experience is a government scheme offered to school students in Year 10 or above. The student has a placement at an employer's premises. Students carry out particular tasks or duties, more or less as would an employee. The emphasis is on the learning aspects of the experience.
