Reuse shops are opening at some of Cornwall’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs)
Run by Suez Recycling and Recovery UK, which operates Cornwall’s HWRCs on behalf of Cornwall Council, Kernow Reuse Shops stock a variety of pre-loved items including home and garden accessories, small electricals, sports equipment, books and DVDs, and everything in between. The items are sold at the shops for affordable prices.
Shops have opened at Truro and St Austell HWRCs. A third shop is due to open at United Downs HWRC in the coming months.
As well as saving customers money, reuse shops help reduce waste and protect the environment.
Becky Parry, Renew Manager at SUEZ, said: "We are thrilled to introduce three reuse shops across Cornwall in September and hope to have a shop based at the majority of our HWRCs by the end of 2025.
"Our goal is to make reuse accessible and affordable for everyone in our local communities, whilst creating a positive impact on the environment. We believe that by promoting reuse and recycling across the county, we can all work together towards a greener future for Cornwall."
Councillor Carol Mould, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, said: “We see so many items taken to our HWRCs that are perfectly useable, including some things that are brand new and still in the box.
“This great initiative is all about preventing waste and giving pre-loved items a new lease of life.”
People can donate pre-loved items for the shops at all of Cornwall’s HWRCs. Donated items will be sold at the reuse shops or given to charity organisations.
Kernow Reuse shops will be open between 9am and 4pm seven days a week.
