Newquay residents are being given the opportunity to have their say on proposals to tackle anti-social issues caused by overnight camping in the town.
Following complaints from residents about noise, rubbish and other anti-social issues, members of Newquay and St Columb Community Network Panel resolved earlier this year to investigate options.
As a result, Cornwall Council has launched a consultation on proposals to ban overnight parking for motor vehicles and motorbikes on Trebarwith Crescent, Island Crescent and Bothwicks Road. These restrictions, which are proposed to be in place between 8pm and 6am, aim to combat the rising number of camper vans and larger vehicles parking on residential streets.
The deadline for responses to the consultation is Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Councillor Louis Gardner, Newquay Mayor and Cornwall Council local member for Newquay Central and Pentire, said: “It is important that all residents take the time to respond to the consultation whether they are in support of the proposals, would like changes or are against the scheme. We really do want to hear your views as to how to tackle the concerns raised.”
Cornwall Council is also consulting on a number of proposals for highway restrictions in Newquay. These include:
- Bank Street – proposed on street parking restrictions to facilitate a limited waiting bay allowing motorists to park for a maximum of 30 minutes between 8am and 6pm.
- Beachfield Avenue – proposed one-way traffic restriction to tackle issues caused by inconsiderate and obstructive parking.
- Glamis Road – proposed no waiting at any time restrictions all year round, to prevent obstructive parking.
- Tredour Road - proposed no waiting at any time restrictions all year round, to prevent obstructive parking.
- Trenance Lane – proposed introduction of a no waiting at any time restrictions all year round and amendments to existing on street parking restrictions.
