Residents are being asked for their views on new plans to improve Barncoose Terrace in Pool for walkers, cyclists and bus passengers, as well as residents living in the area.
A public consultation starts today (Thursday, July 10) on the proposals which aim to encourage ‘through traffic’ travelling between Camborne and Redruth on to the A3047 through Barncoose Industrial Estate.
The proposals have been published ahead of a public exhibition taking place on Friday, July 25 between 2pm and 7pm at Treloweth Community Hall, Moorfield Road, Pool, Redruth, TR15 3QB.
The plans include:
- New cycle lanes and more crossing points for pedestrians
- More trees and landscaping along the road to improve the street scene for people living locally
- Improvements at bus stops with new shelters
- Parking bays to replace the current on-street parking
And to improve traffic flows further along the A3047, new parking restrictions would prevent on street parking on Wilson Way and the speed limit on Dudnance Lane increased from 30mph to 40mph.

Cornwall Council cabinet member for transport, Cllr Dan Rogerson, said:
“This is a very busy route which – particularly at this section – cuts through a residential area. Since the opening of the Camborne Link Road more than ten years ago, the aim has been to encourage through traffic away from Agar Road and Barncoose Terrace. With funding now available to progress plans for the Barncoose Terrace section, these proposals address some of the issues that currently discourage drivers from choosing the A3047.
“Around a quarter of Cornwall’s carbon emissions come from transport, while a third of cars journeys are less than three miles. We’re not asking people to give up their cars, instead consider swapping some of their shorter journeys for walking, cycling or travelling by public transport. To do this, we first have to put the infrastructure in place to make residents feel safer – and, this is what these proposals aim to do.”
Carn Brea Parish Council Chairman, Cllr Bob Drew, said:
"We have had the opportunity of working closely with Cornwall Council on these proposed highway improvements. We would encourage everyone to take advantage of the public consultation period - this length of road has very high usage by pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, many of whom may live or work some distance away and so may still be impacted by any changes. We look forward to hearing the views of the public, so please take part."
