Grab the popcorn and tune into Headstart Kernow’s new parent and carer series on education

Forget Netflix, parents and carers looking for the next show to dive into need look no further than Headstart Kernow’s new series on education.

This is the second series the HeadStart team have produced following a super successful ‘series 1’ in 2021 which focused on health and wellbeing and to date has reached more than 46,000 people.

There are 21 video workshops lined up for the new series, each with a specific focus and featuring education experts from across Cornwall Council’s Together for Families (TFF) service.

Topics range from the likes of SEND (special educational needs and disabilities), applying for a school place and school attendance to elective home education and safeguarding.

They have been filmed live and will be uploaded to the TFF Facebook page over five weeks starting Monday, July 1, at 7pm.

Each Friday we’ll record and release a short video letting you know what’s coming up the following week, but don’t worry if there are times you can’t tune in just head over to the HeadStart Kernow website to watch the recording and catch up on any others you may have missed.

Ness Little, HeadStart Digital Resilience, Parent, Carer & Family Lead, said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to present ‘Series 2’ which has been produced with the help of our fantastic Together for Families colleagues here at the council, particularly those who provide support to families in areas related to education”.

“Join us for what promises to be an interesting and exciting journey, hearing and learning from local experts who really know what they are talking about. Our hope is that together we can create a supportive community dedicated to the wellbeing and success of our children.”

Anyone can watch the sessions, and each is designed to:

  • Provide valuable resources, strategies, and guidance from local experts.
  • Boost your knowledge and confidence in managing your child’s education.

Ness added:

“We are totally committed to supporting parents and carers throughout the journey of raising a child. Our sessions aim to empower and provide the information, tools and strategies needed to navigate the education system and help our children thrive. We also had a lot of fun recording them, so I hope that comes across too! Why not check out the TFF Facebook page on Monday July 1 and give them a go? Popcorn and pick ‘n’ mix are optional of course!”

Headstart Kernow offers training courses and events, information, signposting, resources and more to help build resilience and mental wellbeing for children and young people.
