Proper Job service delivers ideal outcomes for people across Cornwall

A service that supports adults with learning disabilities or autism into employment has supported 12 people into paid employment since its set-up 6 months ago.

The Proper Job service is part of Cornwall Council’s adult social care services. They opened the café at County Hall in Truro in June this year, alongside their wider programme to support other Cornwall employers to employ more people with adults with learning disabilities.

The Proper Job team have supported people with eight informal applications and 45 formal applications which resulted in 35 interviews and 12 job offers, all of which were accepted.

Cllr Andy Virr, Cornwall Council cabinet member for adult social care and health said: “What’s so great about this service is seeing the meaningful outcomes from people who have been supported. To have 12 people now in employment is a fantastic result, alongside so many other impressive statistics that translate to real people living more productive lives.

“This is closely aligned with one of the Council’s main outcomes, for people in Cornwall to live in vibrant, safe, supportive communities where people help each other to live well. Having the opportunity to be employed and have independence is one of the key ways in which we can all live well. I can’t wait to see more people being supported in this way to help them achieve their goals.”

Abi who has recently been supported by the service to find employment said: “I can do it fine, and it gives me something to do. I like working on my own and it allows me to do this. The money comes in very handy and I have also met some new people.”
