An accessibility tool which supports people to read information on Cornwall Council’s website has averaged around 2,000 users a month since it’s installation last year.
The Recite Me tool provides numerous ways to make information more accessible, providing translation into over 100 languages as well as reading the content aloud and adjusting the screen appearance.
The tool has now been installed on a number of other council websites including Let’s Talk Cornwall – a site that is used for many of the Council’s consultations and Headstart Kernow – a website used to support children and young people’s mental health.
Leader of Cornwall Council Cllr Leigh Frost said:
“It’s fantastic to see the tool being so widely used. This is all part of our aim to make our information as accessible as possible and, while it doesn’t cover all accessibility needs, it does make things easier for a lot of people.
“When visiting one of our websites you will usually find a symbol which is a round speech bubble with a person with arms outstretched. If you click on that icon the recite me toolbar launches and you can access all of the different options to help you to get the information you need.”
The tool is now working on the following websites:
- Let’s Talk Cornwall
- Headstart Kernow
- Start Now
- Safer Cornwall
It will soon be available on:
- Cornwall Library Services
- Healthy Cornwall
- Our Safeguarding Children Partnership
