Four of Cornwall’s social workers have been recognised in British Association of Social Worker’s (BASW) Amazing Social Worker awards.
Today (18 March) is World Social Work day and to celebrate BASW have launched their Amazing Social Work awards, championing the exceptional work happening across the UK social work profession.
The awards aim to highlight the achievements of individuals and teams in the profession, whilst also raising the profile and public understanding of the critical role of social work in our communities.
Mike Le Feu, Beth Collis, Adina Sava and Fiona Stuart from Cornwall Council have been nominated by their colleagues this year, for a range of attributes and talents that they exemplify in their daily work.
BASW will pay tribute to them by featuring their accomplishments on their website and social media channels throughout March as part of their celebrations for World Social Work Day.
Cornwall Council Strategic Director for Care and Wellbeing, Ali Bulman said:
“I’m so proud of the work that all of our social workers do but I’m especially proud of the work that has been highlighted by these four people, along with their colleagues who have taken the time to nominate them.
“Social work is a challenging yet extremely rewarding career, and the work that has been highlighted here shows the impact that workers have, not only on the people they support but their colleagues too. The qualities that have been shown by Mike, Fiona, Beth and Adina are ones that are reflected across the organisation and I’d like to say thank you to all our staff for what they do.”
Commenting on the awards, BASW UK Vice-Chair Lewis Roberts said:
“BASW is delighted to once again run the Amazing Social Workers campaign. It’s a wonderful way for our profession to come together to celebrate, applaud and shine a spotlight on exceptional social work practice, while also thanking and paying tribute to the individuals and teams making it happen.
“Everyday, social workers across the UK go above and beyond advocating for the adults, children and families they support. Their role is key to upholding human rights, promoting social justice and making a positive difference to people’s lives.
“Congratulations to everyone who has been deservedly nominated for recognition this year. We look forward to sharing and championing your achievements as part of our World Social Work Day celebrations.”
A sample of Beth’s nomination:
“Beth’s care for others is evident throughout the many systems she works within, applying the same level of care and commitment to everyone irrespective of role/status, promoting a respect and value which reflects in the outcomes and morale of those around her.”
A sample of Mike’s nomination:
“Mike has always seemed to have some really important core values at the heart of what he does, values that are so important in what we do as AMHP's: care, compassion & respect for the patient, accurate knowledge of the law, slowing it down and ensuring we reach the right decision without undue pressure, and looking after yourself as the worker (namely, don't miss lunch!) An amazing AMHP & Social Worker and colleague through and through.”
A sample of Adina’s nomination:
“Adina is an incredible person, we are so lucky to have her in our team. Adina is always willing to help and remains a calm presence during stressful or difficult situations.”
A sample of Fiona’s nomination:
“Fiona has juggled some very challenging, difficult and time-consuming cases during a tough ASYE year. She helped support positive outcomes for the high-risk individuals whom she has worked with whilst also ensuring her team members are feeling supported and valued. Well done Fiona!”
