Following the ongoing success of the men’s programme, Healthy Cornwall has teamed up with Plymouth Argyle to trial a football league aimed at helping women lead a healthier lifestyle.
The free sessions span eight weeks and are open to all women over 18 with a BMI of 28 and above.

They will initially take place at Humphry Davey School in Penzance but more locations will open up if this trial proves popular.
Sessions take place on Wednesdays with the first scheduled this week (January 7) between 6.30pm and 8pm. No previous footballing experience is required.
Craig Manclark, Healthy Cornwall’s Locality Team Lead who spearheaded Argyle Fit, said:
“Following the success of the Lionesses in recent years, Healthy Cornwall in partnership with Plymouth Argyle Community Trust are delighted to announce a trial of a Women’s only Argyle Fit football programme.
“Plymouth Argyle community coaches and Healthy Cornwall’s team combine to provide motivation and a friendly indoor football league alongside healthy lifestyle advice to help make changes and improve your physical fitness and mental wellbeing.
“If you or any female you know are interested in getting a little fitter and understanding more about how to manage and maintain a healthier weight this could be just the kick off your 2026 needed!”
Cllr Thalia Marrington, Cornwall Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Public Health, said:
“This is a fantastic programme and an open goal for women out there looking to embrace a healthier lifestyle in 2026. I would urge as many as possible to sign up and take advantage of free training from a top football club. There’s nothing to lose apart from that unwanted weight!
“If football’s not your thing, Healthy Cornwall also offers a host of other options, which can help you live a happier, healthier lifestyle all year round. Find out more on the Healthy Cornwall website.”
