Residents are being asked to get involved with a major project to set out a vision for how Cornwall could look by 2050.
Cornwall Council’s aim is for everyone in Cornwall to start well, live well and age well, as well as supporting our target to become carbon neutral.
This vision is wide-ranging and will mean creating stronger communities that support fairer, greener growth, giving our young people a great education, and making more opportunities for better-paid work available to everyone.
Addressing the climate emergency, inequality and health and wellbeing are issues that are key to our vision.
The Prosperous Cornwall 2050 project brings together plans and strategies from across Cornwall Council, including the Local Transport Plan, the Housing Strategy, the Local Skills and Labour Strategy and a plan for our places, known as a spatial strategy.
And it is the spatial strategy that residents are being asked to have their say on as the Council launches an initial period of informal consultation.
A survey is running from November 9 to December 31.
Olly Monk, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Planning, said: “This will set out a vision of what Cornwall wants, where it wants it and the way in which we think our communities will use places in the future.
“It will help shape what needs to happen through our next local plan and other strategies, giving a picture of the Cornwall our communities want. It will help with decision making for planning applications and proposed building and developments.”
The survey asks people how they think we could meet a growing need by building the right things in the right locations and offering more of the affordable homes that are needed.
It will also ask how the way in which new places are built can help people have healthier lifestyles, as well as how existing towns and villages can be improved to help towards that aim.
Also under the microscope is how towns and villages can be less dependent on cars and how it can be made easier for residents to choose alternative, more sustainable more sustainable ways to travel.
How people work now and in the future is examined, looking at the effects on towns and villages of changes in where and how people do their jobs and also at what people may need in their future homes.
The survey asks how we can help nature at the same time as providing homes, services and infrastructure and the community facilities needed to support them.
