Four community projects including two new skateparks, new toilets and revamped Church Hall are underway thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, allocated via Cornwall Council’s Community Levelling Up Programme.
The projects are part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme and will support the development of new accessible facilities designed to strengthen community engagement and promote environmental sustainability.
Tregony with Cuby Parish Council has been given funding of £93,199.50 to develop a new wheeled sports park in the Tregony Sports Field, creating a safe and inclusive space for scooters, skateboards, and BMX bikes.
Cllr Dorian Spackman, chairman of Tregony with Cuby Parish Council, said: “This project is a fantastic step forward for our community. It reflects our commitment to creating inclusive, active spaces for young people while enhancing the natural beauty of our parish. We’re proud to see this vision come to life with the support of the Community Levelling Up Programme.”

Madron Parish Council has already opened its own new wheeled sports facility at the King George V Playing Field, built with a £214,000 CLUP grant.
Cllr Hugh Eddy, chairman of Madron Parish Council, said: "“This is the result of six years of work by Madron Parish Council. We had over 100 people filling in our questionnaire wanting a skatepark for Madron.
"From there a lot of work went into securing the £214,000 of funding to get the skatepark designed and built.
"Cornwall Council have been very supportive through the Community Infrastructure Levy Fund, Community Capacity Fund, and the Community Levelling Up Programme.
"The project was also supported by Sport England and the Madron War Memorial Trust, alongside LiveWest, Jewson and members of our community in Madron who supported our Crowdfunder campaign."

A grant of £57,780 will enable the Nance Mill Engines Preservation Association to develop a new meeting and welfare facility alongside an eco-friendly composting toilet block at the historic Nance Mill site. These much-needed upgrades will replace outdated infrastructure and provide essential amenities for both association members and the wider public.
The new meeting room will offer a flexible space for changing, seminars, exhibitions, and small gatherings. A new kitchen facility will support the association’s popular Open Days, enabling catering, cake sales, and improved volunteer support. The composting toilet block will include two unisex units—one with disabled access—, all using waterless systems and rainwater harvesting to ensure sustainable waste management.
Trustee Keith Billington said: “Our members and volunteers, who are essential to Nance Mill’s work, currently have limited toileting and sub-standard break facilities.
"This lack of infrastructure also restricts our ability to open to the general public. We’ve already made a great start by demolishing the old structure and are very much looking forward to our launch event later this year.”

“It’s about creating a space where everyone in our community feels welcome and included.”
