Tregony with Cuby Parish Council is delighted to announce the development of a new wheeled sports park, thanks to a £93,199.50 investment from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, delivered through Cornwall Council’s Community Levelling Up Programme; part of the Good Growth Programme.
The new facility will be located in a designated corner of the Tregony Sports Field, a cherished community space. Designed to follow the natural contours of the land, the free-to-use park will offer a safe and inclusive space for scooters, skateboards, and BMX bikes, providing much-needed recreational opportunities for local children and young people.
The project has been shaped through community consultation, including input from local schools, and will feature seating, safety signage, hedging, cycle racks, and soft landscaping to ensure it blends seamlessly into its surroundings. It also supports the Parish’s Community Action Plan by expanding youth activities and enhancing green spaces, with a nearby pollinator area contributing to biodiversity and sound attenuation.
Cllr Dorian Spackman of Tregony with Cuby Parish Council said: “This project is a fantastic step forward for our community. It reflects our commitment to creating inclusive, active spaces for young people while enhancing the natural beauty of our parish. We’re proud to see this vision come to life with the support of the Community Levelling Up Programme.”
Cllr Rob Knill, Chair of the Roseland & Truro Community Area Partnership Funding Panel which played a key role in allocating funds to local projects, said: “The wheeled sports park is a brilliant example of how targeted investment can make a real difference at the local level. It’s a project that brings together community priorities, youth engagement, and green space improvements in one exciting initiative.”
Cornwall Councillor for the Roseland Electoral Division, Cllr Julian German, said: “I am delighted to see the skate park coming to completion. Young people told us it was what they wanted and the Parish Council have worked hard to deliver it. Tregony is a strong community and this extra facility will help it to continue to flourish.”
