In his response, the Prime Minister said the Government wants to “bring back hope and fairness”, with greater power moved away from Westminster and into local communities. He specifically highlighted Cornwall, saying that no community should feel left behind and that access to opportunities should not depend on where people live.
The Prime Minister also recognised the work being undertaken by Cornwall Council to develop a rural model of devolution that makes the most of Cornwall’s distinctive strengths and opportunities.
He welcomed the Council’s ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) around its proposed designation as a Single Foundation Strategic Authority.
