Organisations are being encouraged to bid for funding from a new programme to support projects that can breathe fresh life into Cornwall's town centres.
The Town Regeneration and Investment Programme (TRIP) is part of the Good Growth Programme, which is managing delivery of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and is making up to £1.5 million available to support schemes that will revitalise towns and high streets and boost local business growth and productivity.
TRIP will offer individual grants of between £2,500 and £500,000 for successful applicants.
Eligible projects must have secured at least 25% of match funding, and must show wide economic and regeneration impacts, focussed on five priorities:
- Focus on Town Centres: Projects that help improve the social and economic life of a Cornish town.
- High Street Revitalisation: Projects that make a real difference to the high street or main business area of a town or large community in Cornwall.
- Tackling Local Challenges: Proposals to address the specific economic challenges within a town.
- Support for Sectors: Projects that help Cornwall’s Distinctive sectors including Critical Minerals, Renewable Energy, Space, and Marine. As well as Core sectors: Visitor Economy, Creative Industries and Agri-food.
- Cornwall-Wide Coverage: The funding is available to all towns across Cornwall to apply with projects that deliver the aims and meet the criteria for investment.
Bids for projects must be submitted by the end of June and must be completed by the end of the year.
Cllr Tim Dwelly, Cornwall Council’s Cabinet member for economic regeneration and investment, said: “I've always pushed for High Street and town centre vitality and this is a new, but fairly small fund, that can test new ideas and bring some investment into the towns that have not had support previously.
“Whether it is bringing town centre buildings back into use, improving facilities or retrofitting clean energy technologies, or even improving public spaces to help a town centre thrive, providing it boosts a town’s economy, we will consider them.
“Our High Streets have suffered in recent years with the impact of changing shopping habits and working patterns, and it is vital we help to breathe new life into them.”
