A new plan to give every resident the support, opportunity and environment to be more active more often, to benefit their health and wellbeing has been approved by Cornwall Council’s Cabinet committee.
The Framework for Leisure Activity in Cornwall 2024-2034 was the key topic for debate at the committee’s final meeting of 2024, which took place in County Hall (Lys Kernow) in Truro today.
The plan acknowledges the financial challenges facing local authorities across the UK, and looks at innovative ways of working with partners to ensure there is access to good quality leisure provision for the next ten years and beyond.
Cllr Linda Taylor, leader of Cornwall Council, said: “This Leisure Framework is the perfect example of the way we will have to work in the future to continue to provide the services our residents value, while dealing with the financial challenges all local authorities are facing.
“Our leisure services were on the brink of disappearing just a couple of years ago, and I am proud of the incredible hard work done by our portfolio holder, Cllr Carol Mould, and the officers in her team, to get us into this position.
“By working with partners we are finding innovative ways to ensure the facilities our residents appreciate are still available for them to use.
“It will also have a huge knock on effect for other services, as a population with access to leisure facilities is healthier, helping us towards our ambition of creating a Cornwall where everyone can start well, live well and age well.”
