Three vital plans to help achieve a carbon-neutral Cornwall where everyone can start well, live well and age well will be among the agenda items when the cabinet meets at County Hall in Truro next Wednesday.
The Prosperous Cornwall 2050 plan brings forward a new way of working that supports the council’s priorities and will help shape the plans for how Cornwall’s places should evolve to 2050 and beyond.
It brings together three areas: housing, transport and planning, and is designed to ensure that plans and strategies across the council have the same direction of travel and complement each other.
The Celtic Sea Power Business Plan 2022-26 outlines how the former Wave Hub Ltd site off Hayle will be used to develop a floating offshore wind site, which would form part of efforts to make the UK carbon neutral by 2050.
The plan sets out the activity required to start generating power, how to access funding to support its further development, and how to turn the Celtic Sea Power Ltd from a research organisation into a commercial entity.
Also on the agenda is an update on the Public Transport Improvement Programme, which outlines the steps already taken to improve services, including the current low fares pilot scheme and the introduction of low emission vehicles.
It also sets out future steps in the plan, including securing future funding and how to further increase public transport usage going forwards.
Cllr Linda Taylor, leader of Cornwall Council, said: “I am pleased we are now seeing this work coming before the cabinet, reflecting the priorities we set when we were elected last May.
“These are the issues that matter to our residents, and we are determined to build a better and fairer Cornwall for all, as these plans clearly demonstrate.”
Also on Wednesday’s agenda will be the authority’s latest performance reports, the business plans for both the Corserv group of companies and for Treveth, and an update on the ongoing estate transformation at the council.
