Businesses can take innovation in their STRIDE with the launch of new business support for RD&I

working through research and development ideas

Businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly looking to commercially exploit new ideas and technology can now gain support with the launch of a new project to accelerate innovation and economic growth.

STRIDE (success through research, innovation and development excellence) is a high impact, bespoke, programme championing innovation across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and is delivered by the University of Plymouth on behalf of the Growth Hub.

Whether at concept stage through to commercialisation of ideas, STRIDE’s comprehensive offer aims to empower businesses to unleash their potential to scale and grow. From intellectual property and R&D tax credits to game-changing scale-up endeavours – STRIDE can work with businesses on their journey to make innovative processes and commercially viable products and services an exciting reality.

The project offers early-stage businesses the opportunity to attend focussed masterclasses and specialist surgeries, with more advanced innovations accessing the wealth of tools and knowledge available through the University of Plymouth’s industry leading facilities and world-renowned academics.

Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for economy, said:

“The Council is committed to empowering and enabling businesses to recognise and fulfil their potential so that they can thrive and grow. By doing so they can contribute to Cornwall’s economy and increase opportunities for well-paid jobs for our residents. Invaluable initiatives such as STRIDE offer businesses the specialist support they need to help them on that journey.”

This support is offered alongside the recently announced £5m of Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) grant funding, also available from the Growth Hub, and businesses can benefit from both to help realise their growth ambitions.

The University of Plymouth has been commissioned to deliver the STRIDE project on behalf of the Growth Hub by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund as part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme. The aim of the fund is to realise the potential of businesses in the region and to make the economy more resilient, more equal and more prosperous.
