Changes to the authority’s overview and scrutiny arrangements will be on the agenda when Cornwall Council meets in Truro next week.
The meeting, which will take place in the Council Chamber at County Hall (Lys Kernow) on Tuesday, 16 April, 2024, will also hear an update on the capital programme, and will note the result of last week’s by-election in the Looe West, Pelynt, Lansallos and Lanteglos division.
Two motions have also been submitted for debate, one on the loss of farmland for solar farms, and one on dental care provision for Cornish children. A decision on whether the motions will be debated will be made at the meeting by the Chairman of the council.
There will also be an opportunity for public questions, and for councillors to quiz Cabinet members on their portfolios.
Cllr Linda Taylor, leader of Cornwall Council, said: “We are always working to ensure the council works in the most efficient way, and the changes proposed here, which have been drafted by the constitution and governance committee, seek to improve the way all aspects of the authority’s work are scrutinised.
“These full council meetings are a vital part of that process too, with councillors able to raise issues for general debate, providing us the opportunity to hear differing points of view from across the chamber.
“Our democracy only works when everyone has a voice, and these meetings provide exactly that.”
The meeting, which will start at 10.30am, is open to members of the public, who can also watch proceedings live via our webcast service.
