Residents are being urged to have their say on new Government plans to help control the number of holiday lets in towns and villages in England.
Cllr Linda Taylor, leader of Cornwall Council, has welcomed the proposals as ‘sensible measures we have been lobbying for to help address our local housing problems’.
The first part of the consultation, which was launched by Levelling Up Minister Michael Gove today, looks at proposals to make planning permission a requirement for new short-term lets.

A second consultation has been launched by the Department for Culture Media and Sport on a new registration scheme for short-term lets.
The scheme aims to build a picture of how many short-term lets there are and where they are located, to help understand the impact of short-term lets on communities.

Responding to the announcement, Cllr Taylor said: “I am delighted to see the Government taking steps to help tackle the housing crisis that is caused by the growth in the number of holiday lets in our towns and villages.
“Although tourism plays such a vital part in our economy, seeing local people driven out of the area due to a lack of affordable housing is not acceptable.
“These plans represent sensible measures we have been lobbying for to help address our local housing problems, and I urge as many people as possible to take the time to respond to the consultation to ensure Cornwall’s voice is heard loud and clear.”
