Cornwall Council wants to hear from people working in Cornwall’s creative industries

The Creative Census is now live

Organisations and individuals working in all sectors of the creative industries are being asked to take part in short online survey.

Each year Cornwall Council carries out its Creative Census (Niveryans Awenek) to find out how many people are working in creative industries, which include advertising, architecture, arts and culture, crafts, design, fashion, software, games, music, publishing, TV and film.

Data from the 2024 Creative Census revealed that 10,870 individuals are employed in creative-related occupations across Cornwall. 60% of respondents were sole traders or freelancers.

The data also showed that there are many well-established creative and cultural businesses in Cornwall with 47% saying they had been trading for 11 years of more.

Almost half of those who responded worked in music, performance or visual arts.
As well as providing detailed data about the size and value of the creative industries to Cornwall, the survey also asks questions about potential barriers to success and the support needed to overcome these. The results of the Creative Census are used to inform a range of policy pointers.
Carol Mould, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, said: “The creative industries are such a valuable part of Cornwall’s economy.
“We have so many unique businesses and talented individuals who are making their mark in Cornwall. Data from the census helps us to recognise how we can support them and help others to thrive in the creative industries.”
You can take part in the survey on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website. The survey will close on March 6.
