Get ready: what you need to do now

1. Recycle

Cornwall's blue bag for recycling paper, orange bag for cardboard and brown paper, red bag for plastic and tin packaging and black box for glass bottles and jars, and textiles

The most important thing you can do now to get ready for the new collections is to make sure you're recycling as much as you can using the current service.

This will make it easier for you when your collections change to food waste weekly, recycling fortnightly, and rubbish fortnightly limited to what fits in your 180 litre bin or sack with the lid closed. That's roughly 3 to 4 black bags.

Making sure you're recycling and not filling your rubbish bin with your:

  • cardboard
  • glass
  • plastics
  • cans
  • paper and
  • textiles

will make it easier for you to meet the new limit on rubbish.

2. Check which rollout area you're in

From October 2023 you'll be able to check for updates on when the rollout begins in your area and exactly when your new service will start by entering your address on the My Area page of our website.

When we’re ready to rollout the new service in your area – but not before - we'll start updating your property’s information in My Area.  This will include details about when your bin will be delivered, your new service start date and your collection day.

Check the My Area page for updates.3. Look out for your Get Ready leaflet to land on your doormat

A Get Ready for your new waste collections leaflet

You’ll know we’re about to begin rolling out the new service in your area when a Get Ready leaflet from us lands on your doormat.

Once your Get Ready leaflet arrives, you can expect your new bins to be delivered soon and your new service to start within the next three months.

Find out more about your bins Remember to keep checking for updates in My Area.  This will give you a bin delivery window and your exact new service start date.

4. Expect delivery of your bins in the next few months

Once everyone in the rollout area has had their Get Ready leaflet, our delivery contractor Jett will have crews out delivering bins from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week, over a two to three month period.

You don't need to be home to take delivery of your new bins, as Jett's crews will leave them outside. The crews will carry letters confirming they're out working on Cornwall Council's behalf.

Check if you're in the current rollout area and see you bin delivery window by entering your address in the My Area section of our website.
