Current Route Overview

Following the public exhibitions in August the Project Team has been focused on developing the routes, collating further technical information and instigating various environmental surveys. The 810 questionnaires received both online and at the exhibitions demonstrated over 90% support for the schemes (81% strong support) with just 5% against. From this we have been able to identify and categorize feedback, which has helped the Project Team in developing the trails, with redesign and change of routes in some sections over the last few months.

This process has included a review of a large number of design options for each route considering the engineering and user requirements, associated costs, the impacts on landowners, plus environmental, planning and legal issues together with the feedback from the general public and interest groups.

The route plans and design options reports setting out the rationale for recommended route for each trail can be found at the links below:

Trispen to Idless

St Newlyn East to Carland Cross

Perranporth to Newquay

St Agnes to Threemilestone

This work has informed the preferred route recommendation and the required land for each of the trails that will be reported to Cornwall Council Cabinet when they meet on 18 December 2019.

There is still much work to do on the detail design on some sections including further environmental and technical surveys which will feed into Planning applications next year.  However some sections of the trails within the existing Highway would not need Planning permission and can be constructed as part of normal highway works. Subject to Cabinet giving the go ahead on 18 December it is intended to progress these elements in Goonhavern, St Newlyn East and near Trispen as early wins that would provide benefits in advance of decisions on the planning applications on adjacent sections. Those affected have opportunity to comment on highway works at the Council's Consultation Finder website

The draft route has been updated.
