Funding and budgets

Funding for highway maintenance is supported by Central Government through Capital grants. The Council sets policy and strategy and our contractor, CORMAC Solutions Ltd, delivers the day to day management and maintenance of the highway network. 

The council evaluates highway maintenance requirements and allocates the highway maintenance budget at the beginning of each financial year

The major tasks which form part of this service are:

  • highway inspections
  • surface dressing
  • resurfacing
  • patching
  • general purpose maintenance
  • maintaining road records.

We also plan and co-ordinate roadworks and all other works on the highway.  

Other key tasks are temporary road closures, pavements, drainage, verge cutting, repairing potholes, winter gritting and snow clearance.
