Home to School Transport - Operational Information

Cornwall Council has decided to merge all teams dealing with matters relating to travel. This will form one, remodelled Transport Coordination Service. This follows an independent review of how our transport is arranged and managed. The new service will bring together those dealing with transport arrangements for:

  • schools
  • social care
  • the general public

This means a single team, a single budget and most importantly, a single point of contact for customers.

From 1st April 2019, all enquiries relating to school transport will be handled by the new service. This will include the Pupil Transport Team. They will transfer entirely to the Transport Coordination Service. All existing information provided previously will remain valid until further notice. This includes:

  • telephone numbers
  • email address
  • website links

Advice will follow when these change to establish single contact points.

The Transport Coordination Service will maintain all duties currently administered through the ITU/PTU. It will also now manage the entire Home to School Transport process. (This includes dealing with Home to School/Post-16 transport applications and related policy matters). This new service will enable Cornwall Council to deliver transport services efficiently and effectively. It will also pave the way for further integration and innovation in the future.

For general transport enquiries there will now be a single contact point:

However, please note that all other email addresses already established for specific types of transport enquiry will continue to be in use.

These pages provide operational information  about home to school transport. This is for parents, guardians, pupils, operators and drivers.

Cornwall Council transports around 15,000 school children and social care service users each day. School transport services are provided through contracted and approved operators. This includes:

  • buses
  • coaches
  • taxis
  • private hire cars

We also use local bus, rail, ferry and community transport schemes for school transport. In some cases we also provide contributions towards fuel costs for families of eligible children. This is where this is the most economical option available.
