Cornwall does not have any KS4 establishments. KS4 establishments include University Technical Colleges (UTCs) or Studio Schools. You can submit an application to transfer to a UTC or Studio School from year 9. Parents in Cornwall may apply for their child to transfer to a UTC or Studio School in another county.
UTC Plymouth is a specialist educational environment for 13 -19 year olds. It offers a chance to focus on science, technology, Art, Engineering and Maths subjects. These are integrated with core national curriculum studies.
Scott College is a small school from Year 9 to Year 13 which has a medicine, social and health care specialism.
University Technical Colleges
University Technical Colleges offer a unique opportunity where education and business come together. They equip students with the skills that are already in high demand in the city and beyond.
Studio Schools are a new type of school model for 14-19 year olds. They are designed to equip them with the skills, knowledge and experience they need to succeed in work. Studio Schools offer a bold new approach to learning. This is by teaching through enterprise projects and work placements with key local and regional employers. This approach ensures students' learning is aligned to the real world of work. This helps them to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed and that employers are asking for. Students can apply to join at Key Stage 4 (year 9 or 10). They can also apply at Post 16.
