Report an abandoned vehicle

Please read our information on how we are supporting residents and businesses, as well as information on affected services.

If you believe a vehicle is abandoned on the highway you can report it to us by using this form.

A vehicle is considered to be abandoned if it has no road tax and has not been moved for 6 weeks or more.

Before reporting the vehicle

Vehicles no longer display the tax in the windscreen but could still be taxed. Please use the gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax website to check if the vehicle has current tax

Please consider the following before you report the vehicle

  • could the owner be away
  • has the vehicle broken down
  • ask neighbours as they may know who the vehicle belongs to
  • Is the vehicle secure?
  • Is there significant damage?

The information you provide on this form will be held by Cornwall Council and used by us to process your application. In accordance with Cornwall Council’s Record Retention Policy, the information you provide on this form will be held for a minimum of 3 years, after which period it will be reviewed for further retention or destroyed in a secure manner. All personal information held by Cornwall Council is held safely in a secure environment. We will share this information with other departments of Cornwall Council, appropriate City, Town and Parish Councils, along with their elected representatives to enable completion of statutory duties. Information will not be used for any other purpose by Cornwall Council and will not be passed onto any other third party without your permission.
