Liskeard Library and Information Service

Cornwall’s Libraries are now able to offer book services again by welcoming you at the door but not any further just yet. Order your books online, then go to your nominated library to collect them from the lobby or entrance. You can also return items, with no fines until 30 September. Regular library activities such as story-time sessions will have to wait until we can fully reopen. They can’t go ahead until it is safe. Please keep an eye on our social posts and publicity.

Please note that not all services and facilities are available so please check with your local library before making a special journey.

All online services continue. These include:

If you’ve been longing for a real book in your lap, come back to us from Monday 6 July, opening days and times will vary. Please see opening times below.

Those who use the Information Service for payments and council enquiries should continue to use:

  • paypoint facilities
  • online options
  • telephone options

These have been in place over the last three months. The Information Service remains closed. The click and collect service is only for library books.

The current library building is in need of refurbishment. As such, Liskeard Library has temporarily moved to Luxstowe House. This is to allow for this work to take place. Once this refurbishment has been completed, the Library will return to Barras Street. Both the temporary and newly refurbished library will have staff on hand to help customers.

Planning permission has been granted to a local community group called RIO. This is to continue the library service and to carry out significant refurbishment of the building. We see this partnership with RIO as a positive move. The residents of Liskeard will have a fully renovated library building. This will be more accessible but more importantly safeguarded for the future.

For more information about Rio, please visit the Rio website or the your ideas website.

At Luxstowe temporary library you will be able to:

  • Please note: some items showing as ‘in stock’ at Liskeard Library are being stored off site. If reserving this stock there may be a delay before the items are ready for collection. This may be approximately 2-3 days
  • Use a “click and collect service”. Customers will be able to reserve books and other resources from the online library catalogue. They can then collect them from the temporary library. If it’s more convenient, customers can choose an alternative collection site when making a reservation on-line.
  • 1 Computer with internet access
  • Access free Wi-Fi and computers.
  • The Library Microfilm is currently located in Liskeard Museum. This will continue for the duration of the building works
  • Free customer parking

For your convenience there are a range of PayPoint and Post Office sites that accept both cash and card payments. Most Post Offices are still accepting cheques at no extra cost. Your account will be updated overnight. Many PayPoint stores have longer opening hours and often include weekends. This offers greater flexibility and choice. Head over to my area to see which facilities are available to you more locally.
