Your Rights 

  • Free membership
  • Free loans of books

  • Access to the national network of library and information services

Staff will

  • Wear a badge identifying them as Cornwall Council staff
  • Serve you in a courteous, friendly and efficient way
  • Take part in regular training to update their skills and knowledge

Libraries

  • Opening hours and Mobile Library stops will be reviewed regularly to reflect local needs
  • The layout of each library will be clear and easy to use
  • Customers will be served as quickly as possible, whether in person, by phone or by email
  • A current list of fines and charges will be on display

Services

  • We will provide a wide range of books and other materials for loan, with new titles added regularly
  • We will aim to supply 50% of all requests within 7 days
  • Information will be accurate and up-to-date
  • Access will be available to information on local services, clubs and societies

How we find out what you want

  • We will regularly survey customer needs in order to provide the best possible service
  • If you wish to comment or complain, please speak to the staff or complete one of the Feedback forms provided. Alternatively you may e-mail libraryservice.feedback@cornwall.gov.uk
  • When we receive your comments or complaints we will generally reply within three days and aim to resolve even more complex issues within 10 working days.
  • Issues of concern about the Library Service may be raised with your local councillor.

The mission of the Library Service is to:

  • be the most reliable source of information in Cornwall about Cornwall Council and other public services
  • promote reading, learning and the latest information technology to everybody in Cornwall
  • provide community spaces for cultural activities celebrating Cornwall's unique culture and heritage
