Placements for individuals from diverse groups

We provide an inclusive working environment and commitment to placements for individuals from diverse groups; including disadvantaged young people, care leavers, long term unemployed/returners to the labout market, young people with SEND and adults with learning needs.  We currently have opportunities listed below starting in October 2019.

Civil Parking Enforcement is responsible for the enforcement of all parking restrictions, both on-street and within Cornwall Council car parks.  Providing multi-skilled officers for community enforcement including littering, dog fouling and dogs on beaches

Tasks you might do or observe

  • Shadowing officers on foot patrol across Cornwall
  • Shadowing officers attending Pay and Display machine faults
  • Responding to officers queries on the phone
  • Stock Taking
  • Support Admin Team in the day to day running of the back office function

Circuit House, Truro

ESF Project Ambitions supports 15-24 year old back into work/education. 

My role within this project is to share the knowledge of the government Access to Work fund, create awareness and support individuals with applications as required

Tasks you might do or observe

Admin related tasks and project work

Possible tasks may include:

  • Populating a map of the various providers in the region
  • Gain understanding of Access to Work - Offer ideas on how to promote this
  • Calling/emailing providers to arrange meetings
  • Attend meetings to explain about Access to Work
  • Writing up information
  • Attend at events (as required) - transport can be provided


We can offer placement for up to 6 weeks.

Dates will be dependant on the managers availability at the time which you apply.


Bodmin, chy Trevail

Our service deals with billing collection, recovery of Council tax and business rates.  It also deals with business improvement district levies for Cornwall and the Council of the Isles of Scilly

Tasks you might do or observe

  • Administration tasks on spreadsheets and the main database
  • Updating Council tax accounts (training will be given)

Person specification

We are looking for a Team player with:

  • a positive attitude

As well as someone who can be flexible and adaptable.


This placement can be between 2 and 12 weeks

The Cornwall Education Business Partnership supports schools in their careers program by linking businesses with schools.  

The manager for this placement works specifically with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).  The manager works on a wide range of projects such as planning and delivering STEM focused careers fairs and is currently supporting schools with their Action for Climate Change.

Tasks you might do or observe

  • Developing a project with schools - project management skills
  • Speaking with and supporting teachers/school staff around their careers offer - learning about the job market and schools careers.
  • An opportunity to develop communication skills with stake holders.
  • Working with young people to develop a project or while involved with an outreach day. - learning skills around working with young people
  • This role is dependent on working in a team with a diverse number of people from students, teachers and council staff - learning really good communication skills


Placements can only be held in term time, not school holidays

Front-line Admin teams: providing support to operational colleagues (Social Workers, Care Co, Occupational Therapists) who work with people who are 18 years or older.  This involves dealing with telephone calls, processing referrals, arranging and minuting of Safeguarding/Best Interest/Complex Care meetings, using Mosaic to send documents.  Our team in NCH provide support to the Senior Management team, plus Adult colleagues who work on the same floor.

Tasks you might do or observe:

Front-line admin teams: We currently have a project to digitalise our paper records which is a significant change for the service. 

There are different workstreams within the project: 

  • Restore preparing existing files to be sent to scanning, smart saving of miscellaneous files and cross checking records against Mosaic for deletion

We would like to work with someone to develop their skills and knowledge: basic admin skills, use of Mosaic (customer database), information gathering and decision making.


January onwards.  Initial length of the placement will be 4 weeks, but it is possible to extend it to 12 weeks.  All individuals will need a DBS check.
