There are a number of ways that you could join the council to start your career within local government and opportunities exist for school and college leavers, graduates, career changers and those returning to work after a break.

Work experience – an opportunity to learn directly about working within a particular discipline or service.  Work experience options may be available for year 10 – 12 students, college and or university students, people getting back into work and for people who are looking for a way of testing out possible career options.

Traineeships – an education and training programme with work experience which gives young people the skills and experience employers are looking for.

Apprenticeships – a structured accredited development programme to help people gain the skills and development for a particular role.  Apprenticeships enable you to learn while receiving a wage.

Graduates – a development role which is defined as a skill or qualification level that is required by the organisation.  Graduate placements enable transference of learning into the work place.

General vacancies – available via temporary, casual, fixed term or permanent contracts.

We also offer volunteering opportunities which enables people to give their time freely for the benefit of others, with no expectation of financial reward.

Check our vacancy website regularly and set up job alerts so that you can identify suitable opportunities as they arise. Further information on how to search and apply for vacancies can be found on the Jobs and Careers page.

If you are interested in future work experience or graduate opportunities please email an up to date C.V. indicating your area of interest to the Talent Strategy Team at
