This is a crucial system leader role with responsibility to embed and improve population health outcomes across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, as we implement our ambitious growth and transformation plans.

Cornwall Council and the Council for the Isles of Scilly are seeking an experienced public health leader, someone capable of making the case for investing in prevention and leading the strategic development and implementation of a range of strategies and programmes that drive improvements in the health and wellbeing of its residents and crucially have an impact on health inequalities.

As well as being the statutory Director of Public Health for the two Local Authorities of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the wider Integrated Care System, bringing public health and population health expertise to our planning and delivery plans. You will also lead for Cornwall Council on the physical activity and leisure services, which promotes improvements in the health and wellbeing of our local communities and will be an integral member of the Council’s leadership team to embed public health across the work of the local authority.

Reporting to the Strategic Director for Public Health and Care, you will work across our directorates, our partners and communities, shaping the wider determinants of health to reduce health inequalities. You will need to bring not only a strong track record in Public Health delivery but also the ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships, with a wide range of stake holders, to ensure positive outcomes for residents.

Supported by a high-performing public health team, this role for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly offers unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional development in a wonderful location which promotes the right work life balance.

We invite applications from suitably experienced individuals on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register/UK Voluntary Register for Public Health Specialists who have a proven track record in public health leadership.
