Careers in Information Services

Is

Is it time you started to get some balance back in your life but you are still driven by a need to make a difference. We may have just the opportunity for you!

We are currently seeking talented, ambitious and dedicated individuals for a number of upcoming opportunities across Information Services teams.

About us

Cornwall Council has a revenue budget of over £1bn with 123 local councillors representing the 550,000 residents of Cornwall and delivers services to every community across the county.

The Council has a workforce of around 5,500 and is the biggest employer in Cornwall.

Cornwall (Cornish: Kernow) has a distinct cultural identity that reflects its unique history and is recognised as one of the Celtic nations. In 2014, Cornish people were granted minority status under the European Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, giving Cornish people recognition as a distinct ethnic group.

Information Services is transforming

Cornwall Council Information Services enables IT for the typically diverse range of resident and business focused services offered by a large unitary authority; from adults and children's services, libraries, housing, planning, highway maintenance and waste management through to quarries and an airport.

In 2017 the Digital Cornwall programme received the biggest investment seen in IT in the Council for a decade. This significant investment has provided a foundation of enabling platforms, with the potential to transform how residents access Council services and empowering council staff with new, enterprise class, collaboration and mobility tools.

Information Services itself is now going through a transformation adopting a more agile approach. Delivery will be faster and incremental, with the customer being part of the delivery team. Demand and planning will be managed with product roadmaps and a clear understanding of resourcing limits. We will be constantly looking for where a service can be packaged into a solution for customers to self-serve in the future.

We are therefore looking for more people to join our team, to bring and share their skills and move us towards becoming a valued partner with our business areas.

Our lifestyle offers artisan foods and great local produce, art, culture and some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country from rugged moors to beautiful beaches and attractive villages.

We have the mildest climate in the United Kingdom, and are proud of world class attractions such as the Eden Project, the Minack Theatre, Tintagel and renowned festivals such as Boardmasters, the Eden Sessions and Tunes in the Dunes.

A strong transport network puts you in easy reach of key destinations in the UK and beyond by road, rail, air and sea. Cornwall Airport Newquay – which is owned by Cornwall Council - is the fastest growing regional airport in the UK, connecting more than 400,000 people a year to UK and international destinations.

Our children and family services are rated in the top 25% of children’s services in the country from Ofsted. Six universities and colleges offer higher education at 13 campuses around Cornwall.

We’re also a safe and friendly place - crime rates in Cornwall are among the lowest in the UK.
