We are creating a 'Giant Dolls House for Cornwall'. We are doing this with our local partners and the national Oxfam programme of events.

We plan for it to be included in the Global Giant Dolls House.  The closing date for entries is Friday 2 July 2020.  There is a prize of a gift voucher for the most creative dolls house by a local family.  The judging will be carried out by one of our Elected Members.  Please send your photo, together with a couple of lines explaining why you have chosen your design, to

Find out more on Refugee resettlement.

Many of the refugee families have also got involved and the picture below highlight why we need to do more and continue to provide support.

Home is fundamental to everyone. The project provides the opportunity to talk through what is important to all of us. This will include what it is like to have to leave your home without our most treasured processions

The Virtual Giant Dolls’ House project invites children of all ages, and their families, to share their experience of staying in one place. This is due to self-isolation and social distancing. The project invites people to make a dolls house or room in a shoe box using any bits and bobs around the home. Recycled materials in particular can be used to create a relaxed, enjoyable way of thinking about:

  • refugee issues
  • the importance of community
  • mutual support for all people

We hope as many people as possible will get involved. You will need to send in your photos, together with a couple of points about why you have chosen the items. All entries will be displayed on our website. There is a prize of a gift voucher for the most creative dolls house by a local family. The judging will be carried out by one of our Elected Members.

Film Streaming

As part of raising awareness in refugee week, we have shared below some films about refugees. Topics include:

  • politics
  • social
  • cultural
  • lives

We will also provide links and information as part of our commitment to grow understanding and support to families in Cornwall in the future.

  • For Sama

An intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her.

  • This is Home

An intimate portrait of four Syrian refugee families arriving in America and struggling to find their footing. They attend cultural orientation classes and job training sessions where they must "learn America", and when the newly imposed travel ban adds further questions and complications, their strength and resilience are put to the test.

Short Films

  • Escape From England (age 8+): What if we were the refugees? What if we had to escape England? How could we get away? Would any country accept us?
  • Space Refugees (age 8+): A grandfather with his granddaughter escape their ruined planet in search of a time/place on earth that will accept them: Babylon 570 BC, Rome 100 AD or London 2018 AD?
