What other support is available if I am shielding?

What is the shielding group?

The ‘shielded’ group are individuals who have been identified by the NHS as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable. They risk getting seriously ill if they contract COVID-19. There are a number of specific health conditions that meet this criteria.  These can be found in the Government's guidance. Individuals on the shielded list should have received a letter from the NHS.

Shielded individuals can stop self-isolating but you must still follow social distancing rules.

If you were shielding, you are now able to

  • go to the shops
  • visit places of worship
  • collect prescriptions from your GP's surgery or local pharmacy
  • If you need to work and cannot do so from home, you will be able to return to work as long as your workplace is COVID secure.

Food parcels sent by Government to those shielding have stopped.

Other forms of support will continue, such as:

  • priority supermarket delivery slots
  • help from Cornwall Council, Volunteer Cornwall and the NHS Volunteers Scheme

If you need any extra support contact:

Supermarkets are continuing to provide priority delivery slots to shielded individuals from August. Many supermarkets are proactively contacting shielded individuals. Please note that you may need to have registered an online shopping account with a supermarket in order for them to contact you.

You can find out more information on how to get support with food. Including contact details for supermarkets.
