School meals

Schools are now closed to children except those in vulnerable groups or children of key workers. However, schools have been asked to make arrangements to continue to provide meals for children on benefits-related Free School Meals and Pupil Premium, including those who are not attending school. This may include providing meals or food parcels, or providing supermarket vouchers. If this applies to you, you should contact your child’s school for more details of their arrangements – supermarket vouchers are not issued by Cornwall Council. If your child has an existing benefits-related Free School Meals entitlement you will be automatically entitled to alternative provision through the school – you do not need to apply through us again. Check with your child’s school if you’re not sure.

These arrangements will not apply for children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 who are receiving meals under the Universal Infant Free School Meals entitlement rather than as a benefits-related entitlement. If you have a child in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 who you think may have an underlying entitlement to benefits-related Free School Meals please check the eligibility criteria below and make an application online.

We are continuing to process new applications for Free School Meals. To apply, please ensure you read the eligibility criteria below before applying. Please complete the online application form below if you are eligible.  We are not currently accepting applications in hard copy by post. If you are unable to apply online, please call the Free School Meals team on 01872 323298 and a member of the team will call you back to complete the application over the phone. Please make sure your phone will accept calls from a private / withheld number.

School transport

Coronavirus - transport to support vulnerable children and children of key workers.
All schools in Cornwall are closed until further notice, except for:

  • vulnerable children and young people
  • those whose parents/carers are key workers

If your child falls in to this category and you are seeking transport assistance, please contact your child’s school.

Schools admissions - changing schools

Please note that there may be a considerable delay in processing applications at this time.  Our target is 20 school days, however this may be exceeded due to the current circumstances.

We appreciate your patience and will be in touch with an outcome as soon as possible.

Occupational therapy

Update for parents and carers regarding ongoing occupational therapy work

Due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus we have had to make some changes to the way that your Occupational Therapist works with you and your child.

Your Occupational Therapist will ring you before a visit to ask if you would like to go ahead with it. Please let them know if your child or someone in the family is showing symptoms.

If your child, someone in your family, your Occupational Therapist or a member of their family have any of these symptoms the visit will be postponed.

If you do not want visits at the moment your Occupational Therapist will note this and we will keep in touch with you on a regular basis.  As much as possible, we will continue to work remotely for you and your child. This might be via phone calls, Skype or something similar.  Due to staffing, you may be contacted or seen by a different Occupational Therapist from the team.

We will operate a priority system for working with you and your children, for example a high priority would be where provision of moving and handling equipment in a high risk situation is necessary.

Family hubs

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the restrictions put in place by the Government we are unable to maintain services within our Family Hubs and have therefore closed until further notice.

There are some midwifery and health visiting services still operating. Please contact your midwife or health visitor for more information.

If you need to contact your local hub please email and one of the team will respond:

Please visit the Family Hub pages.

If you have an emergency safeguarding issue please contact the Multi Agency Referral Unit.

Autistic Spectrum

The Autism Spectrum Team during Covid-19

The Autism Spectrum Team is continuing to support young people with autism, their educational settings and their families where young people on roll at a school are being educated at home. All work is being undertaken remotely.

The team is continuing to accept new referrals and priority criteria still apply (see below). In relation to current open cases, professionals and carers should contact the advisor who is involved in the case. For more general enquiries there is a new Autism Advice Line for professionals.

The Autism Spectrum Team has written a number of new resources for parents and for professionals in response to the current situation which are available to download in our resources section.
