Trans Fats Business Pledge

The pledge that businesses are asked to make is simply:

“We have already removed, or will remove, artificial trans fats from our products.”

In summary, it requires that:

  • Fats and oils are free from partially hydrogenated vegetables oil and contain no more that 2% total trans fats.
  • Food service providers procure products and adapt their practices to remove artificial trans fats.

Full details of the pledge are available at the Department of Health's Artifical Trans Fats Removal web page.

Many national producers, including major supermarkets, have already taken this pledge to remove hydrogenated fats from their own brands.  We want to ensure that as a major food producing county we do the same here in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

This pledge will help ensure the amount of artificial trans fats in the diet remain low, and give consumers confidence that Responsibility Deal partners will not use them in foods in the future.

We want Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to be artificial trans fat free.  We believe many producers would willingly help.  If you want to find out how to do this there is advice available to download from the Department of Health's web site: Advice for small businesses on removing artificial trans fats.

If you would like to learn more about how to reduce transfats or becoming a partner please email businessandconsumersupport@cornwall.gov.uk.

In return for this pledge, you will be able to join our list of Responsible Partners that will be published on this website.  Once you have achieved the standard you can display our logo on your premises and food packaging as an endorsement.
