Poor children are four times as likely to become poor adults as other children.

There are six key family characteristics which make it harder for some poor children to do well at school: a poor home environment, under-developed “character” skills (eg social skills, self-esteem, resilience), a parent being ill, experiencing ill health themselves, having parents with low qualifications and low family income.
