Prioritising Adolescence - Reducing Vulnerability in Adolescents

Our Safeguarding Children Partnership for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly held a conference which offered the opportunity for colleagues from a wide range of settings to come together to reflect on adolescence in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and to be able to discuss key messages from research and share learning from the experiences of colleagues in Cornwall and elsewhere in the UK.

Our speakers included Dez Holmes, Director of Research in Practice and Research in Practice for Adults. Dez champions evidence-informed practice in order to improve outcomes for children, young people, adults requiring support and their families and carers. Dez spoke on the topic of Risk, Rights, Resilience and Relationships and facilitated some group work on the same topic. This was an opportunity to consider the impact of these factors in relation to adolescence in Cornwall and to identify what we can each do to work together most effectively.

St Giles Trust SOS and SOS+ Projects have been at the forefront of tackling county lines and gang related violence. The day also included a session from Kate Sidwell from Young People Cornwall helping us to reflect on involving young people and how we might do this better.
