Our Safeguarding Children Partnership for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Annual Conference took the opportunity to reflect on areas of risk that are common to a number of recent rapid reviews or serious case reviews both locally and nationally.

This conference brought together professionals working with children in a variety of different settings across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and further afield to offer an opportunity to share experience and to reflect on what we can do differently as individuals and as organisations to improve outcomes for children and their families.

Our speakers included Alison Hadley OBE, Director, Teenage Pregnancy Knowledge Exchange, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, University of Bedfordshire who will discuss the importance of pre-birth assessment in supporting teenage parents.

Focussing on other risk factors will be key speakers on:

  • Neglect particularly the problematic issue of chronic neglect
  • Domestic violence
  • The experience of young parents in Cornwall

There was also an opportunity to consider the impact of these risk factors in relation to children and families in Cornwall and to identify what we can each do to work together most effectively.
